Copy trading fees, explained
- How are copy trading fees calculated?
- Most copy trading bots and terminals charge a percentage of each trade's notional value. Your monthly cost is roughly (average trade size × number of trades) × the platform's fee rate. Network gas and priority fees are charged on top and are not included here.
- Is a 1% fee a lot for copy trading?
- It adds up fast. At 1% per trade, a trader placing 100 trades of $500 pays $500 a month in platform fees alone. Dropping to 0.5% halves that. Because copy trading is high-frequency by nature, the fee rate is usually the single largest controllable cost.
- Do fees apply on both entry and exit?
- On most platforms yes — a buy and a sell are two separate taxable trades. If you count round trips rather than individual fills, double your trade count in the calculator for an accurate estimate.
